Olly’s Dizzy with Euro excitement

SONG CONTEST ‘GAMBLE’

-

OLLY Alexander has admitted he thinks doing Eurovision is a gamble.

The Years & Years singer has signed up to represent the UK despite a raft of our acts flopping over the past two decades.

He said: “It is risky. It’s literally a competition where everyone is there to pull every little detail apart and judge you against all the other performances.

“They literally rank you. It’s totally unique in that aspect. It’s not something you would usually face as an artist, but I think that’s fun.”

Olly will be competing with his entry Dizzy at the contest in Sweden on May 11.

The star is convinced he’s got a good chance of pulling off the first win for the UK since 1997.

He said: “I want to be memorable, I want to leave an impression and I want people to be a little bit surprised.

“I am quite a happy-go-lucky guy, but the performance is going to be strong and have a lot of impact.

“I think it’s got a good shot. I’m just going to give it my best.”

Olly is such a big fan of Eurovision that he already feels like a winner.

He said: “I genuinely have always loved Eurovision. There is nothing else like it.

“Growing up my family would always have watchalong parties. It was always this one night of the year that was full of insane craziness, a chaotic mix of fun, with all these different musical styles, and amazing performances.

“No matter what happens, I already feel so happy that this song is going to be performed on the stage, so it’s already a win!”

Olly has talked about his plans for the contest in a new interview with Graham Norton.
