PERRY’S THE TRUMP CARD ONCE AGAIN

- BY RICHARD LATHAM

PERRY NG insisted a deserved Severnside derby win at Ashton Gate proved Cardiff’s frustrating season is far from over.

The Merseysider’s 66th-minute header (top) from a David Turnbull corner gave the Bluebirds back-to-back wins for the first time since October.

It also established the right-back as Cardiff’s joint top scorer this season with six goals.

While there is still a ninepoint gap to close on the play-off places, Ng said: “The win proved we have turned a corner. I’m made-up to score in a derby, but even more pleased with the clean sheet.

“We now have a bit of momentum and if we can string a few more victories together it could take us somewhere.

“I set myself a target of eight goals this season, so the first aim is to get to that, but maybe now even 10 is possible.

“I don’t know where the headers have come from, but it was great to get one in this game and reward a really good team performance.”

It was the 17th time Cardiff have netted from a set-piece this season and boss Erol Bulut said: “It is down to the work we put in on the training ground.”

For Bristol City it was a third straight defeat in which they have failed to score. Liam Manning’s team were booed off by their own fans.

The normally mildmannered head coach was clearly furious after the game.

“In the dressing room I am not always calm and collected,” he said. “Do I get angry and do I show that to the players? Yes, 100 percent.

“At the moment we need leaders. It is frustrating to keep delivering the same messages and then see players fail to take the responsibility to carry them out.”
