GO DANTE (2.25) is fancied to land a tasty consolation prize in the Betfair Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle at Sandown today.

The eight-year-old is all but certain to miss the cut for both his Cheltenham Festival targets – the County Hurdle and Martin Pipe – so trainer Olly Murphy’s (right) attention has switched to this £100,000 pot.

And that could be a blessing in disguise, because today’s stiff two miles on easy ground should be ideal.

Go Dante, considered good enough to tackle a Grade One as a novice, dispatched Coral Cup fancy Doddie the great this term before running a cracking third in the Betfair Hurdle last time. He was no match for Champion Hurdle hope Iberico Lord in that red-hot handicap but had plenty of decent horses behind.

The second bet is GOLDEN SON (3.35), who looks solid in the Betfair Novices’ Handicap Chase.

The French import hinted at a bright future when chasing home Turners Chase fancy Iroko on his debut for Paul Nicholls but was pulled up on his next two starts.

Nicholls then stuck the cheekpieces on and his youngster bounced back in style, giving weight and a beating to Heltenham.

Given that the runner-up was a tidy winner of the Greatwood Gold Cup next time, a rise of only 3lb could be generous.

DOCTOR KHAN JUNIOR (2.40) has to be the value call in the BetMGM Lady Wulfruna Stakes at Wolverhampton.

He has improved with every run since switched to the sand last autumn and was wildly impressive when making all for a four-timer over course and distance last time.

There’s surely more to come and he should be ready for this step up to Listed class
