HUNGER GAMES

Eleven left for Spurs to step up says Son

- ■ by NEIL MOXLEY

HEUNG-MIN SON has called on Tottenham’s strikers to ‘step up and stay hungry’ as they hit the run-in.

The South Korean – now the club’s senior forward – played down the crushing victory at Aston Villa on Sunday but said individual confidence levels will have soared.

Four different players got on the scoresheet as Ange Postecoglou’s men sent out a statement at Villa Park that they are in the hunt to grab fourth spot and Champions League football.

Son said: “In these 11 games, everyone has to take a big step forward.

“The victory was just another game but it was important for the confidence for the players who want to score goals.

“Nobody is talking about the age of some of these players but they have to take a big responsibility on their shoulders because they’re playing in the Premier League for Spurs.

“It is something special and you have to… not just be full, you know?

“You must be hungry all the time when you go to every single training session. They are working hard during the week.

“We have talked about being in the right position to score. Brennan Johnson’s was a good finish, also

Timo (Werner), and Dejan

Kulusevski produced a fantastic assist.

“The work is paying off. We need to work harder to get into the right positions.

“That’s what they’re doing at the moment and what I hope they keep doing in these last 11 games – be a top professional, be hungry for goals and winning games.

“If that happens, the results will be positive.” Spurs moved to within two points of Unai Emery’s side with their thumping triumph and they have a game in hand too.

But Son said there was still work to be done if the season was to end on a high note.

He added: “I have to work even harder, be in the right position, be in a different situation when I play striker than when I play as a winger.

“Every manager has made me better and this one is no different.

“I want to be a perfect player and I still have to work on being a perfect player for him.”
