KO BLOW AS IMMANUEL USES HIS HEAD
IMMANUEL FEYI-WABOSO is out of Saturday’s Six Nations clash with France after revealing concussion symptoms to England medics.
The wing (left) suffered a head knock in last Saturday’s 23-22 win over Ireland which was not picked up by pitchside monitoring and he went the full 80 minutes. Feyi-Waboso, a medical student, went to England staff after the game complaining of concussion symptoms. And he was immediately scratched from the Lyon match-up.
He starred against the Irish in his first Test start and was gunning for the French but Richard Wigglesworth thinks he has done the right thing.
The attack coach said: “He’s gutted but, being the smart lad he is, he reported his symptoms so we’re not taking any risks.
“He’s disappointed because he was excited to try and play away in France.
“There was no major incident, he had a knock and didn’t feel quite right, so he was removed accordingly.
“It is completely one of the reasons why the education has happened, so players know. They are better looked after than ever with the rules supporting head knocks.
“I always felt as a player it was my responsibility, after I knew everything, to make sure I was safe and part of the education is allowing yourself to do that, which he has.”
Feyi-Waboso’s absence is a huge blow for boss Steve Borthwick after the Exeter flyer was all over the Grand Slam-chasing Irish.
Elliot Daly would be favourite to start, after being on the bench on Saturday, but Sale’s Tom Roebuck and Bath’s Will Muir are other wing options in camp.
Wigglesworth added: “You have to integrate these players carefully and Steve did that well in how he exposed him to Test rugby.
“He played really well. It’s very disappointing for him as I know how desperate he was to play again and how much he enjoyed his first start.”
