CUP OF GLEE FOR PALMER

- BY NEIL MOXLEY

KASEY PALMER won’t forget this year’s FA Cup in a hurry.

The former Chelsea trainee enjoyed a superb afternoon at Molineux as his eventful run showed no sign of ending.

Palmer was the victim of a racist incident during the fourth round tie at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday, scoring in the replay as the Owls were dumped out.

Then he provided a clutch of assists for Ellis Simms as Maidstone were thumped in the fifth round.

In Premier League surroundings, he was excellent again but had been substituted by manager Mark Robins and had to watch the dramatic two-goal stoppage-time turnaround from the bench.

In fact, he wasn’t there long when Haji Wright cracked the winner – and referee Sam Barrott awarded Palmer a yellow card for a sprint from the sidelines as Robins’ delirious players celebrated with 4,800 travelling supporters.

Palmer (top) said: “The ending was wild. That sums up the FA Cup. I was sat on the bench thinking we had thrown it away with five minutes to go and then that happens.

“As soon as I saw it leave Haji’s foot, I knew it was in and I was off. It’s probably the fastest I’ve run all day.

“I saw the referee coming over and he’s given me a yellow card. It was one of them you don’t really care about. It was the best yellow card I’ve received.

“It was special. A big Midlands derby. To come back from 2-1 down so late, very special.”

Palmer said the celebrations continued in the dressing room.

“It was carnage. The club’s trademark is to have ‘Sweet Caroline’ belted out and at big moments we do it,” he said. “Last season, we did it. It’s now a tradition. Chris Marsh, the kit man, gets in the middle and (assistant) Aidy Viveash demands that he gets it going.

“The gaffer was trying to have a few minutes with us but he got drowned out because we just wanted to start the celebrations.”
