LEAGUE TWO

ACCRINGTON 2 NOTTS COUNTY 2

RADEK VITEK says Accrington are not yet ready to call time on their play-off hopes under caretaker boss John Doolan.

The Stanley goalkeeper said: “It’s been a difficult period the last few weeks but the boys want to do their best and stand by the manager.

“And yes, we still have a hope for the play-offs. It’s small but we will fight to the end.”

Jack Nolan’s 79th-minute penalty denied County only their second win of 2024.

BRADFORD 1 MANSFIELD 5

JORDAN BOWERY admits memories of last season fuelled Mansfield’s goal rush at Valley Parade.

The Stags defender said: “Even after the third goal, the gaffer was still saying, ‘You’ve got to go get a fourth, go get a fifth’.

“We cannot afford to do what we did last season and miss out by one goal. We’ve got to go into these games and try and score as many as we can.”

Baily Cargill was the first of five different scorers for Nigel Clough’s Stags.

GILLINGHAM 1 GRIMSBY 1

DAVE ARTELL says Grimsby’s six-game unbeaten run shows they are building momentum at exactly the right time in the season.

The Mariners boss said: “The players dug in, rolled their sleeves up, and we could have nicked it at the end.

“I think a draw is a fair result, and it’s another point on the board.

“We’re six unbeaten now. I’m not sure how many teams in this league are unbeaten now, but that’s us.”

WREXHAM 0 TRANMERE 1

LUKE NORRIS admitted his relief at scoring his first league goal since August but says credit for Tranmere’s win should go to the backline after they shut out Wrexham.

The Rovers forward said: “I’ve had a really tough year... it was really nice to score.

“But I think the way the lads defended at the back was incredible.

“Big shout out to Josef Yarney and Jordan Turnbull, who were the two best players on the pitch.”

AFC WIMBLEDON 0 NEWPORT 2

KYLE JAMESON says Newport’s victory at Wimbledon sends out a message in the League Two play-off hunt.

The defender said: “It’s a statement win, coming away from home, especially to a place like this, which is a tough place to come.

“I don’t think we have kept as many clean sheets as we would have liked to but keeping one today was massive.”

Jameson sealed victory after Bryn Morris’ opener.

COLCHESTER 1 WALSALL 1

CAMERON McGEEHAN is confident Colchester can pull clear of the bottom two.

The U’s midfielder said: “It was all us in the second half, so we were disappointed not to go on and win the game.

“But if we play like that in the final weeks of the season, we are going to be good. There is a lot of belief in the changing room. We will keep going.”

Taylor Allen put Walsall ahead and McGeehan equalised with an emphatic finish.

MK DONS 3 CREWE 1

MATT DENNIS has put his early-season injury problems behind him and is ready to help fire Milton Keynes into the top three.

The MK striker’s double helped see off Crewe and he said: “It’s getting very tight at the top.

“I’m confident in the boys we are going to get promotion. We are going to keep pushing and working.

“I picked up a few injuries earlier in the season but I’m here now and I’m giving it the best I can.”

SALFORD 3 MORECAMBE 1

CONNOR McLENNAN’S first league goal for Salford helped put them 11 points clear of the drop zone.

Winger McLennan fired in the Ammies’ 13th-minute opener yesterday with Callum Hendry (right) adding an acrobatic volley on 50 minutes.

Morecambe were given hope by Theo Vassell’s 61st-minute own goal.

But Curtis Tilt sealed the win when he headed home in the 79th minute.

Morecambe boss Ged Brannan said: “This was an unacceptable performance.”

BARROW 0 HARROGATE 0

GEORGE RAY was determined to take the positives after Barrow’s promotion charge was stalled against mid-table Harrogate.

The Cumbrians defender said: “We pride ourselves on clean sheets.

“I think we have conceded one goal in the last four games, which is a big upturn from that week when we lost three on the bounce.

“So let’s keep positive. We didn’t get the win but we have not let in any goals.”

FOREST GREEN 0 SUTTON 1

OMAR SOWUNMI says victory at fellow strugglers Forest Green has boosted bottom club Sutton’s belief they can stay up.

The defender said: “This is a fantastic result for us. The importance of the game was always going to be there in the background but we are just focused on winning every game that we can.

“We are treating every game as a cup final because every point is important now. Our lives are on the line.”

SWINDON 1 DONCASTER 2

OWEN BAILEY says Doncaster’s win highlighted the side’s shortcomings earlier in the season.

After Maxime Biamou and Hakeeb Adelakun’s goals won it for Rovers, the midfielder said: “To grind it out and win the game was great and really showed that different side to us.

“Looking back over the season, it’s why we are where we are.

“But if we carry on doing what we’ve done recently and grind out results, we’ll only go the right way.”
