Splitting up helps Fight

BREAK LED TO BEST LP

-

FIGHTSTAR reckon their several hiatuses are what keeps the band strong.

Over the weekend the guys reunited for the first time in eight years to put on an incredible one-off show at London’s OVO Wembley Arena and they say taking regular breaks from one another is key to remaining friends.

The last time the band recorded original music was back in 2014 after a five-year break and they say that break led to their best album Behind The Devil’s Back. Guitarist Alex Westaway

said: “We had such a long break, well five years, our last break has been longer but that five years allowed us to shed any weight of, ‘Fightstar have to be this or sound like this.’ “With that break, our artistry, our ability to work together cohesively just improved, improved, improved, it went up exponentially.” Frontman Charlie Simpson

agreed: “Also being on your own label and not answering to A&R guys saying you need a big radio single is a big part of that.

“Behind The Devil’s Back was written purely for us, and I think it’s our best record, a lot of our fans think it’s our best record.”

However, with Charlie’s band Busted back in the studio there are no plans for Fightstar music, which is what they say made the reunion show so “special”.

The gig was partially down to one fan who wore them down by endlessly asking them to get back together.

Charlie said: “There’s this one guy who started an account called ‘Come back Fightstar’ and he has tweeted like 1,500 times just basically putting out memes and saying stuff about when Fightstar will get back together again. And I’ve quietly kept an eye on that over the years, I couldn’t wait to see what his reaction was gonna be.

“I feel like he’s part of the family. I saw people thanking him for his services.”
