Glasner focus is on goals

- ■ by JOHN RICHARDSON BOURNEMOUTH C PALACE KICK-OFF:

OLIVER GLASNER insists he is confident that Crystal Palace’s goal malaise on their travels will soon be a thing of the past.

In his short time in charge, the Selhurst Park boss has already rued several missed chances, especially on away days.

They go to Bournemouth having scored just 15 goals – only rock bottom Sheffield United have notched fewer.

But Glasner said: “I’m really calm we will score goals. I see the team, I see how they work, how they play. I see how many chances we create.

“Jean-Philippe Mateta in many moments he can score. (Eberechi) Eze can score. We also need more players to do that.

“If the players keep working hard, I’m sure that we will win games instead of drawing like in our last two against Nottingham Forest and Luton.

“Of course we practise finishing in training.

“We try to give them confidence and they all have the quality. What they produce in training we need to see in games.”

Mateta has three goals in his last four games.

Glasner said: “JP is the one who raises his hand. He has the confidence. His finish against Forest was excellent. We know his strengths, his physicality. But there are many things he can still improve on.”

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola insists facing Palace will be a tougher test now Glasner is at the helm.

Palace have picked up a win and two draws from four matches under the Austrian since he replaced Roy Hodgson last month.

The Spanish coach said: “Names-wise they haven’t changed a lot, although they’ve made new signings like Daniel Munoz.

“But tactically they are completely different.

“Glasner plays very well with the system he has, it’s difficult to defend, players play in-between positions and I think they are adapting really well.

“It will be difficult but we are in a good run and we need to keep pushing.”
