CHIGOZIE KEEPS HIS HOLIDAY JOB

- ■ by GARETH DAVIES

CHRISTIAN CHIGOZIE is having a great time during his school hols – as part of Luton’s match-day squad.

Midfielder Christian, who turned 16 last November, was called up as a substitute by the Hatters at Arsenal on Wednesday and is set for a repeat at home to Bournemouth today.

His school, where he is studying for his GCSEs, is a goal-kick away from Luton’s training ground.

Boss Rob Edwards said: “We picked him out in a few youth games and I had really good feedback on him.

“We like him as a person. He’s a great young kid – a real role model in the academy. They have high hopes for him and it was great to give him that experience.

“He’ll be back in the squad for Bournemouth and we’ll see if he’s needed for the bench.

“He loved the experience at Arsenal. It was a special moment for him and something he’ll remember for a long, long time.

“I hope it kicks him on to keep working hard and doing what he’s doing.

“He’s the same age as my middle daughter, which makes me feel old.

“It’s a lovely story for young kids aspiring to be footballers.

“Christian has been training with us for a week or so. Things have been speeded up for him because of the injury situation.”

Luton, struggling in the bottom three with an injury list in double figures, could have defender Reece Burke back from a heel injury.

And there will be a special salute for midfielder Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu on his 400th appearance.

He has played right through Luton’s rise from non-League to the top flight and Edwards said: “He’s a special, special man and a special player.”
