Booking baffling for Harry

- ■ by JOHN CROSS

HARRY KANE thought it was “strange” that he even got booked for his elbow on Arsenal defender Gabriel.

Former top-flight referee Keith Hackett claimed the foul (below) was a “nailed on” red card because Kane knew what he was doing during the flashpoint.

It left Gabriel in pain and needing treatment but Bayern Munich striker Kane only received a yellow card and official Glenn Nyberg gave a foul against the England captain.

Kane said: “It was strange, I’m not really sure, it was 50-50, he gave that one as a foul and I’m surprised it was a yellow card, but it is what it is. Decisions sometimes go your way.”

Kane thought it was a far bigger mistake when Nyberg failed to give a penalty against the Brazil defender for picking the ball up in his penalty box after the whistle had been blown to restart play.

But Kane did sympathise with Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, his Three Lions team-mate, who went down late on under Manuel Neuer’s challenge.

Kane added: “They had a decision at the end which sometimes go your way but we also had a clear penalty which would have been really strange, when the keeper passed it to Gabriel and he picked the ball up in his box.

“It was a stonewall penalty and I don’t know why the ref didn’t give it.

“It would have been strange. But the ref blew the whistle, he passed it, he picked it up, it would have been child-like but that’s not our problem.

“The rules are the rules and maybe they should have had one, we should have had one, and it’s 2-2 and level for next week.”

Bayern now start as favourites to reach the semi-finals as the six-time winners are on level terms and have never gone out to Arsenal in the knockout stages.
