DRAGONS QUEST

Ex-Catalan star May putting on his Gamer face

- ■ by DAVE CRAVEN

ON HIS first Perpignan return, Hull KR’s Tyrone May is launching a smash-and-grab raid to retrieve two points – and his PlayStation.

The stylish Aussie stand-off enjoyed two campaigns with Catalans before moving to Rovers off-season.

He has been ever-present so far for Willie Peters’ side, who head to France firing for a sixth straight win.

May is looking forward to catching up with former colleagues, not least ex-England star Michael McIlorum.

He said: “I loved it there. I made lifelong friends. I speak to Mickey Mac pretty much every day. Me, him and Pearcy (Mitchell Pearce) formed a bit of a crew.

“And there was Fouad (Yaha) and Jordan (Dezaria) from the French boys but they’re all good fellas.”

Catalans players who are dads can, bizarrely, often be found stacking up on nappies when they visit England due to them being much cheaper here.

But will May be bringing back anything the other way when he returns to Stade Gilbert Brutus?

He said: “My PlayStation. I’ll be bringing that back as it’s still at Mickey’s house. I left a bit of storage there, so I told him to bring it. But he didn’t bring it last time. I’ll have to grab it before he sells it!”

Fiery ex-Wigan star McIlorum has missed the last couple of games for Catalans but could return today.

Renowned for his big hits, he is still going strong at the age of 36.

Will May be expecting to get walloped? “I have messaged him and told him to ease up,” said the former Penrith ace.

“Whether he plays or not, he’s shown for the last 16 or 17 years playing at hooker, doing what he does, it’s pretty mental.

“I’d have retired a long time ago if I was him. If he does play, hopefully it’s not towards me.”

It would be no surprise if McIlorum played on again in 2025. May said: “The thing about Mickey is it doesn’t look like he’s ever slowing down. He’s got crazy mental capabilities and it’s up to him whether he wants to (play on) or not.”
