Country’s making a Dash back POP SO CLIQUEY

-

SHE’S climbing the charts with her boot-shaking hit Austin and Dasha believes country music is here to stay in the UK.

Unlike many TikTok trends, the Nashville-born singer/songwriter insists that this isn’t a fad and it’s just the start of us Brits embracing western music.

Dasha told me: “I think what it was is that people were missing a level of authenticity to music, and I think country brings that element to it.

“Because it’s so real – it’s real instruments, just a guitar, some fiddles, and bass – and it’s real stories that people wanna share that hits a vulnerability level which I think people were missing a lot.”

With more than 7billion views worldwide, the song is still climbing the charts (currently at No7), and Dasha’s in great company too with Beyoncé tipping her hat to the genre with Cowboy Carter.

Dasha gushed: “The fact that I am even side-by-side with Beyoncé doing this is like, ‘What in the hell?!’

“She is an icon, and she’s built such an incredible career for herself, even for my name to be mentioned next to hers, I am really honoured.” She added that back home the atmosphere is electric: “Nashville has never been more popping. I feel like, I think seeing my success story has been really inspiring for a lot of people that have been working really hard at it, like myself, from Nashville.

“I think now more than ever people are really excited to be discovering new country music.

“I am really excited for my friends and peers in the country to have a leg up for a change as normally country is on the backburner.

“Now, people are keening for it so I think this whole new wave will change the country industry forever, and I feel so honoured to be in the middle of it, it’s like, ‘Wow this is amazing.’”

Even country icon Keith Urban is appreciative of what Dasha has done for the scene: “I got a text from Keith Urban a few days ago, that was pretty crazy.

“He was just expressing his congratulations and how stoked he was for the journey.”

Dasha added the country world is much more “welcoming” than the “cliquey LA pop world”.
