GREAT SCOTTIE HAS TARTAN HERITAGE

- ■ by JOSHUA LEES

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER added a red tartan jacket to his two green ones after being crowned champion at the RBC Heritage.

Fresh from winning the Masters for the second time in three years last week, Scheffler’s domination of the PGA Tour continued at Harbour Town.

The world No.1 returned to the South Carolina course yesterday holding a five-stroke lead with three holes to play after a storm halted play early on Sunday.

He dropped a shot at the last but finished on 20 under to complete a four-shot win, his fourth in five starts.

It meant he became the first player on the PGA Tour since Tiger Woods in 2006 to follow up a Major championship victory with a win a week later.

And the last man to win the week following the Masters was Bernhard Langer, who, in 1986, followed his Green Jacket triumph with the Volvo PGA Championship. Scheffler (right) has now trousered £15m this season – more than double the next highest earner, Wyndham Clark.

He said: “Last week was fantastic and then coming into this week I didn’t have my usual prep work but I showed up ready to go.

“I got off to a slow start on Thursday but then I played some really nice golf the rest of the tournament.

“Mentally the last month or so has been as good as I’ve been in a long time.”

American Nelly Korda won the Chevron Championship by two shots in Texas to secure her second major title and a remarkable fifth straight tournament win.

Korda’s victory at The Woodlands saw her tie the record for most consecutive LPGA wins with Nancy Lopez in 1978 and Annika Sorenstam (2004-05).
