In Bed with Mariah
BEDINGFIELD SET TO RELEASE ‘LOST’ DUET
ON the comeback trail, Daniel Bedingfield’s long-lost duet with Mariah Carey will finally see the
light of day.
The Gotta Get Thru This hitmaker has started a tech company that specialises in releasing discarded recordings like his collab with the pop diva from two decades ago.
Daniel told me: “There are hundreds and thousands of songs that are recorded and left on hard drives, hundreds of the best albums I have ever heard that record companies have just never released.
“And so what I am fascinated with right now is creating a system to get those unreleased songs released.
“Because the record companies don’t care about them but the artists really do, and the fans do.”
Bedingfield’s company is called H00ks and the idea is to put out a 40-second clip of an old unheard recording to see if it captures the imagination.
Daniel explained: “Like TikTok length, then fans create videos for them, blow them up on socials and then the artist knows, ‘Oh actually this music that is unreleased is the hit as it’s going viral.’”
Daniel’s “lost” duet with Mariah is a ballad called Thousand Life Times and he’s upset nobody has had the chance to hear it, until now: “It really burns a hole in my heart, just sitting there un-released. The fans would love it.” Daniel has just wrapped up his UK tour celebrating 20 years of his album Gotta Get Thru This but admitted he was nervous: “I hadn’t done any live performances because I wanted to see what life was like without them.
“I really explored how to be happy without it because I’m not into being addicted to things. I found I can be happy in many ways.
“But I came back to the microphone with Natasha [Bedingfield, sister] and everything was there. I remembered what to do and the music carried me.”
Sounds like he finally Got Thru This.
