ORCHID BLOOM (2.05)
looks ready to blossom in the William Hill Conqueror Fillies’ Stakes at Goodwood.
This Listed race is a tight little betting heat but William Haggas’s (right) filly has a lot more upside potential than most of her rivals after only six starts.
And she has looked well up to winning at this level ever since strolling to an easy victory on her handicap debut last summer.
She went close in two stabs at today’s grade after that, beaten only a short neck on the second attempt, and it seems just a matter of time before she lands one.
The deep ground will suit, she goes well fresh and main rival Novus is saddled with a penalty, so today could be the day.
MITBAAHY (2.55)
makes plenty of appeal in the Group Three William Hill Palace House Stakes at Newmarket. Already a winner at this level, he showed he’s returned in fine form when a two-length fourth in the Abernant last month.
That effort deserves marking up as he was the only hold-up runner who got involved in a race that played into the hands of those on the front.
He’s entitled to improve for that first outing in eight months and if he does he’ll be right in the mix.
Another who showed plenty of promise on his seasonal return is QUEST FOR FUN (2.40).
He was travelling with zest and in with a big shout before running out of puff in the final furlong at Musselburgh last month.
He’ll strip a lot fitter in today’s Vickers.Bet Thirsk Hunt Cup, in which he tackles a mile for the first time.
Steadily progressive over shorter last season, his breeding suggests he could be even better with the extra yardage.
