Zayn: Change Direction on school meals

RISHI SNUBBED BENEFITS LETTER

-

FORMER One Direction star Zayn Malik has blasted Rishi Sunak for not answering his calls.

The singer claims he didn’t get a response to a letter urging the Prime Minister to reinstate free school meals for all primary pupils in England.

It’s a cause Zayn feels passionately about as his own family relied on benefits when he was growing up.

The Pillowtalk hitmaker shared: “There was a big thing that happened in the UK where the funding stopped for free school meals for kids and I grew up predominantly relying on that system. “I grew up in a less than working class family and that was really important for my progression as a human. And so I felt kids deserved to get a meal in school if they can’t afford it, it’s something I felt really passionate about.

“I sent a letter to the Prime Minister, but he did not get back to me… I tried to do all that I could.”

Still, Zayn is determined to get through to Rishi and revealed he has joined forces with Feed The Children: “The organisation reached out to me and asked me to get more involved so we are doing a few things coming up with them in the future.” Next week The Bradford-born star will release his fourth solo album Room Under The Stairs but joked he wouldn’t have a music career if it wasn’t for the triplets he fancied at school.

He laughed: “I joined the choir just because I fancied these girls that were in the choir.

“They were triplets and so it was hot, that’s basically where it started, I wanted to spend some extra time with them and we got to hang out quite a bit.”
