DENZEL NEEDS TO DIG DEEP

- ■ Interview by CHRIS McKENNA

THERE comes a time in every fighter’s career when they hit a crossroads clash – one they simply must win.

That is what tonight is for Denzel Bentley as the middleweight faces Danny Dignum in what can be a York Hall cracker.

Denzel (left) is coming off a tough defeat last year by Nathan Heaney. That was a huge blow for him.

It’s not too long ago that he came close to winning a world middleweight title against the imperious Zhanibek Alimkhanuly.

Denzel just left it a bit late that night and if he’d have turned it up earlier, then he may have conquered the feared fighter.

But now he has a chance to reignite his career.

This is no pushover, this is a real fight and Dignum is coming to win and further his own career. We will learn a lot about Denzel tonight and I hope he can show us what he’s made of to get back in the mix at middleweight.

It’s a big night for many on the undercard.

These nights are where we showcase our younger talent but also give them the chance to prove they’re ready for the big time.

Ryan Garner is a superfeatherweight who had us very excited about him earlier in his career but he’s had injuries and issues which have stalled his development.

There’s still something special in him, though, and he can push on with a big performance against the very good Liam Dillon.

Then we have Nathaniel Collins continuing his rise at featherweight and Royston Barney-Smith in his 10th outing at super-feather.

Archie Sharp is another looking to ignite something. We give these fighters the platform, so let’s hope they can take the chance.
