SICKENER FOR UNAI

- ■ by NEIL MOXLEY

UNAI EMERY will hold a roll call with Aston Villa’s injured players before deciding on his plan of attack against Liverpool.

Villa’s boss left Greece early yesterday morning with a furrowed brow as his resources were further stretched in Athens.

The Spaniard saw his club’s chances of success in the Europa Conference League dashed as Olympiakos reached their first European final.

While that was a bitter pill to swallow in a competition that Villa were favourites to win, of more pressing concern was the possibility that he may have added to the list of players on the treatment table.

Leon Bailey (below) limped through the majority of the semi-final second leg after a thigh-high challenge from right-back Rodinei.

His leg was heavily bandaged as he boarded the team coach back to the airport.

Emery will be holding conversations with his crocked stars over the next 48 hours to ascertain who, if any, have a chance of facing the Reds on Monday night.

He has four players ruled out until the end of the season – Emi Buendia, Tyrone Mings, Boubacar Kamara and Jacob Ramsey – and Morgan Rogers is likely to fall into the same category due to a thigh strain.

“Each day is going to be very important because some players have small injuries, some have pain,” said Emery.

“Nicolo Zaniolo is close but until he is feeling comfortable he’s not available to play. Hopefully he can progress. Youri Tielemans is close. Alex Moreno is not a big injury.”

Villa have lost their last three matches and head into their final two games – against the Reds and in-form Crystal Palace – in search of the victory that will secure a Champions League spot.
