Just as he’s being lined up to replace Huw Edwards as presenter of the Ten O’Clock News, bookies’ favourite Clive Myrie lands another plum gig.

CLIVE MYRIE’S CARIBBEAN ADVENTURE (6.30pm, BBC Two) is more than a celebrity jolly, though, since the Mastermind host is making the journey to reconnect with family members – his parents hail from Jamaica and Clive’s sister Judith recently moved there from the UK.

Tonight Clive meets up with Judith and there’s some sibling banter as they explore a coffee farm. Clive also heads off to meet the descendants of the Maroon community, descendants of African slaves who freed themselves, and he learns how to make Jamaican Jerk Pork.

Over the next three weeks you’ll be introduced to some of TV’s most charismatic characters, who’ll bring us nail-biting high drama as they reach big life milestones and sometimes have to fight for their lives.

The youngsters will melt our hearts and the grown-ups impress us with their resilience.

Nope, not talking about the latest period drama, but about the furry and feathered stars of SPRINGWATCH (8pm, BBC Two), which starts tonight and never fails to have me utterly in its claws.

Springwatch will bring us more tales from the undergrowth, introducing us to Sika deer, puffins, badgers and natterjack toads and dozens more animals whose ups and downs are far more thrilling (and real) than what’s going on over on Britain’s Got Talent. Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan welcome us back to RSPB Arne in Dorset, while Iolo Williams and Megan McCubbin report from elsewhere.
