The lure of Canada
EvERy FoUR yEARs, Us citizens assert that if the outcome of the presidential election isn’t to their liking, they will relocate to Canada. Though this idea is rarely reflected in the next census, after having visited British Columbia i admit that okanagan valley wines may have me expatriate regardless of the election!
Being a sommelier in Chicago, i wanted all okanagan valley could give me: knock-yoursocks-off syrahs, linear Cabernets, striking Gewutztraminers and, of course, hedonistic ice wines. To my chagrin, few if any of these wines are distributed outside Canada. This leaves me in a quandary: when is it soon enough to blame political climate for a move? Seth Wilson, Chicago Editor adds: Look out for Steven Spurrier’s Expert’s Choice on British Columbia wines (August 2016).
