What I’ve been drinking this month

-

I’ve been greatly enjoying Mommesin’s Grandes Mises range of Beaujolais. The bottles and labels look serious. Which was ominous: would these prove to be oakily ponderous, wannabe Côtes de Nuits reds? Happily not. One of the best was the Beaujolais Villages 2014: vibrant yet round, soft fruited and tender; magnetic drinking. Of the crus, the St-Amour 2014 was a sour fountain, while the Côte de Brouilly 2013 was a sweeter bubble with a bitter end. They were tannin-spattered; the acidity was fruitsaturated and spectacularly energetic. Served chilled, of course: gorgeous.
