Haut-Médoc
SpREAD ovER 15 communes from south of Margaux to north of St-Estèphe, Haut-Médoc is more an appellation than a style and broadly represents what the Médoc is about. More than 100 châteaux have kept their cru bourgeois classification since the mid-1930s and show an individuality and sense of place that often approaches – sometimes surpasses – that of the lesser cru classés. The offer is wide enough to make the choice confusingly large, but these wines have a status to maintain, which they do with brio in 2015. Recommended drinking from 2020 to 2028, and longer for the best wines.
