Jacques Selosse, Les
Chantereines, Avize NV 100 N/A UK +33 (0)3 26 57 53 56 Highly characterful, with a hint of resinous smoke, brandy butter and the texture of rough-woven cashmere. Heady, with unusual and fascinating flavours of baked pineapple, camomile, toasted corn and chanterelle mushrooms. An exceptionally long, fresh finish with lingering heather, beeswax and Devonshire fudge. This is exquisitely crafted, supremely elegant and yet utterly individualistic and iconoclastic. The embodiment of Selosse – a complete revelation. Vines were planted in 1922; 600 bottles produced. Disgorged January 2016. Drink 2017-2042 Alc 12.5%
Jacques Selosse, Chemin de
Châlons, Cramant NV 97 N/A UK +33 (0)3 26 57 53 56 Vinous in character. Powerful and intensely concentrated with a supple, rounded structure, but still manages to be exceptionally precise and pure. Yellow plums, lemon and lime zest, and pear skins with fresh sap and an exotic hint of ginseng. Develops with notes of quinine and fennel seeds. Builds up to a triumphal finish. 600 bottles produced. Disgorged January 2016. 2017-2037 Alc 12.5% Jacques Selosse, Les Carelles, Le Mesnil-sur- Oger NV 96 £ 200 (ib)-£ 384 Berry Bros & Rudd, Corney & Barrow, Clos & Cru, Hedonism, In Vino Veritas, Seckford, Theatre of Wine, Vanquish, WoodWinters Steely, austere and lean, supremely terroir-driven expression, yet with impressive proportions. Disgorged February 2016.
2017-2032 Alc 12.5% Jacques Selosse, Le Bout du Clos, Ambonnay NV 95 £ 185 (ib)-£ 290 Clos & Cru, Fine & Rare, Roberson, Seckford, Turville Valley Wines, Vanquish Baked apple strudel with mace, allspice, red cherries, dried thyme. complex and beguiling finish. 2,600 bottles produced. Disgorged January 2016.
Drink 2017-2032 Alc 12.5% Jacques Selosse, La Côte Faron, Aÿ NV 95 £ 225-£ 250 (ib) Clos & Cru, Fine & Rare, Seckford, Theatre of Wine, Vanquish Sweet and sour in character, green-tinged strawberry and redcurrant fruit aromas with notes of wild honey, fragrant roses and spiced mince pies. Hedonistic, pure pleasure. Crumbly texture reminiscent of demerara sugar. 1,700 bottles produced. Disgorged February 2016. Drink 2017-2032 Alc 12.5% Jacques Selosse, Sous le Mont, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ NV 94 £ 225-£ 250 (ib) In Vino Veritas, Seckford, Turville Valley Wines, Vanquish This boasts a rosy salmoncopper colour – not quite rosé – which Selosse refers to as a ‘vin tâché’. It’s a full-bodied style, from 100% Pinot Noir grown on the east-facing side of the hill, with pomegranate, hibiscus flower, blood orange, kirsch and strawberries, and a mineral note of white ashes. Briny character with a savoury note of nonpareil capers carries through to the finish. Very unusual and thought-provoking. 2,600 bottles produced. Disgorged February 2016. Drink 2017-2032 Alc 12.5%
