Hallgarten Wines Founded in 2018, Badiola makes terroir-driven, sitespecif­ic wines from old, low-yielding Tempranill­o vines in Rioja Alavesa. Aged 33 months on lees, the currentrel­ease Classic NV is made predominan­tly with grapes from 2016, the third harvest from the estate’s Burge’s Field vineyard. The nose shows chalk and minerals on top of sourdough, bruised apple and spiced apple pie. An intense palate of citrus and yellow apple, with a backbone of piercing acidity. Fine bubbles lead to a smooth, round mouthfeel. Precise and impressive, with a long, limey finish. SW Alc 12%
