Remembering Steven Spurrier

I was fortunate after so many years of hearing about Steven Spurrier to finally meet him. He was the guest speaker at the International Pinot Noir Conference in Oregon. To tell you what a kind and humble gentleman he was, oddly enough he was looking for a seat at the Friday evening dinner. He looked at me and my wife, Maria, and said: ‘Do you mind if I sit at your table?’

That led to a lovely evening of chatting with him about not only wine, but life in general. I was so enchanted by his warmth and kindness and the lack of ego. The world will miss him greatly. I will miss him greatly. He has done so much for our industry and the people in it.
