Matlock recruit Wafula
MATLOCK Town manager Dave Frecklington has added attacking wide player Jonathan Wafula to his squad in time for today’s home clash with Workington in the Evo-Stik Premier.
The 24-year-old has been signed on a dual registration arrangement with his present club Boston United.
He has played under Frecklington before at Gainsborough Trinity.
Wafula, who can also operate in a central striking role, began his career at Chesterfield and lived locally as a youngster in Darley Dale, playing for Tansley Juniors.
He made his professional debut for the Spireites in a 3-0 win against Northampton Town in January 2013, his only appearance for them.
He played for Worksop Town, Shaw Lane and Gainsborough before joining the Pilgrims in February 2018.
Frecklington will still be without midfielder Michael Williams for today’s game as he is sidelined with a long-term injury. Harry Vince is also sidelined and Frecklington will be checking the progress of five more players, including the November fans’ player of the month Ross Durrant.
“Ross has a painful abductor, Adam Yates and Nathan Whitehead have knee problems while Tom Davie in his first game back on Tuesday (a 2-1 win against Belper Town in the Derbyshire Senior Cup) has ankle ligament problems,” said Freklington.
“Lee Beevers has stud marks all up and down both legs. All will need to be assessed and we hope that some of them will make it.”
