Police car is ‘struck’ during chase

A MAN was arrested after his car allegedly “struck” a police vehicle several times during a late-night chase.

During the early hours of Monday, a Vauxhall Astra was seen being driven “erraticall­y” in Harvey Road, Alvaston, according to the police.

Officers said the incident took place around 12.30am and that the driver “struck the police vehicle several times”.

The 42-year-old driver of the Astra abandoned the car and set off on foot, officers said.

He was arrested in Halstock Drive, Alvaston, on suspicion of dangerous driving, criminal damage, affray and several other offences.

A spokespers­on from Derbyshire police said: “A 42-year-old was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, criminal damage, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, resisting arrest, and affray. The man remains in custody.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident can call police on 101.
