Residents’ shock as police launch murder inquiry

Forensics officers in Lapwing Close, Sinfin RESIDENTS have spoken of their shock after police launched a murder inquiry following the discovery of a man’s body close to their homes.

The man was found injured at an address in Lapwing Close, Sinfin, and pronounced dead at the scene shortly after. Four people have since been arrested on suspicion of murder – three men and a woman.

Residents have spoken out now that the nearby cordon blocking entry has been lifted.

One man, who did not wish to be named, spoke about the victim.

He said: “He moved in last January but around here you keep yourself to yourself. I saw him that morning on Sunday leaving the house. I thought he was going to Asda.”

The neighbour said that he did not see the police until the next morning, adding: “The first I knew of it was when I pulled the blinds and said ‘what the hell is that.’ I did hear shouting on Sunday evening but I took no notice of it.”

Another neighbour, Stephen Aird, said: “He was a nice guy. I’m sure I saw him around, but this is a shock to the area and to the residents.”

had police tape across the front door, barring entry. A forensics tent that was put up on Monday afternoon was still in place outside the property.

Derbyshire police said yesterday: “Officers were called to attend an incident in Lapwing Close, Sinfin at 7.45pm last night. On arrival they found a man injured in a house. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Four people – three men aged 40, 51 and 55 and a woman aged 53 – have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody. The investigat­ion is in its early stages and officers remain in the area.”
