-

MASSIVE savings, improved washrooms and environmental accreditation makes Ureco a winner at the University of Derby.

With 30,000 students across numerous sites in the city and county – the University of Derby were keen to tackle bad odours in their public space washrooms and improve their environmental credentials.

Senior cleaning supervisor Cleve Bailey said: “The washrooms at our campuses are in constant use throughout the day and we had extensive issues with bad odours and high maintenance costs due to calcification in the plumbing systems. We were keen to find a solution to this on-going issue and were very interested to learn more about the Ureco system when we met the HSG UK team at the NEC Cleaning Show.”

The HSG team carried out an extensive survey of the men’s washrooms at the University of Derby’s main campus in Kedleston Road, Derby, and were confident that the Ureco system would be the solution to the issues they faced.

After a successful trial, the Ureco system has since been installed at the University’s seven other campuses in Derby and Buxton.

HSG constantly monitors the system which has shown that yearly water usage in the men’s washrooms across the University of Derby A KEY HSG customer over the past 10 years has been the NEC (National Exhibition Centre) in Birmingham which perfectly illustrates the scope and benefits of HSG’s innovative Ureco and Uretech system and the high levels of customer service.

Since the NEC was officially opened by HM The Queen in 1976, the venue has grown significantly in size and reputation to become the UK’s number one venue of choice for organisers, exhibitors and visitors.

There are 20 exhibition halls, 34 conference suites and a host of additional outdoor spaces which host more than six million guests and 500 events every year.

With such a high footfall, the NEC put a contract out to tender to tackle the issue of washroom water efficiency and improve the experience for the millions of visitors.

HSG successfully won the contract – pitching against some of the UK’s biggest washroom services providers.

The Ureco and Uretech system was installed over an eight-week period – working late at night and early in the morning to minimise disruption to the NEC and its customers.

That was nearly 10 years ago and the NEC are still a valued customer of HSG whose technical team carry out campuses have decreased by more than 23,739,965 litres – saving the organisation more than £58,000 a year in water bills.

But the benefits don’t end there. The water consumption savings have heavily contributed to the University of Derby gaining ISO 4001 environmental management accreditation and maintenance costs have also been dramatically reduced due to the Ureco’s patented enzyme system.

Cleve Bailey concluded: “We continue to receive an excellent service from HSG. They are always on hand for service and support and the washroom environment has been vastly improved across our campuses.” quarterly services on the system installed in more than 800 urinals across the vast site.

NEC project engineer Andy Mullan said: “The NEC Group is an extremely environmentally-conscious business, with a broad range of initiatives in place across our venues to reduce our impact on the environment, including the Ureco system. The installation was quick and easy and through the Ureco system. In the first year alone, we saw seen a saving of somewhere in the region of 83 million litres of water, which is enough to fill 33 Olympicsized swimming pools! HSG continues to be a great fit for The NEC and I look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.”
