Person who carried out cruel stunt in Derby slammed after video is viewed 100,000 times online:

THE pictures, above, show the shocking moment a homeless man has chips and kebab meat thrown in his face in Derby city centre.

They are from a video, shared on social media, which shows a man in a Calvin Klein T-shirt walk up to another man – who is believed be to homeless – in Cheapside, in the early hours of Sunday.

The man appears to summon the homeless man before looking at the camera and cruelly throwing a box of takeaway food at him. He then runs away.

The video has been shared almost 1,000 times and viewed almost 100,000 times on Facebook.

The man who recorded the scene, who did not wish not to be identified, has since apologised and said he regrets filming it.

People have been talking on social media and sharing their disap- proval. Ben Lucas wrote: “Instead of trying to find the idiot who did this, can someone please tell me the homeless guy’s name and where he hangs around on the street so I can buy him some food?”

Gemma Louise Etches wrote: “Why would you even do that to someone? And recording it as well? Instead of slapping food in his face, why don’t you give him money or buy him food? #karma.”

The Derby Telegraph has spoken to the man who recorded the video, which was originally circulated on the social media app Snapchat. He says he ‘deeply apologises’ for his actions.

He said: “I was out in the town and, I’ll be honest, I’d had a few drinks when someone came up to me and asked me to start recording. I didn’t know what he was going to do. “What happened happened and I’ll admit I did laugh – but now I wish I hadn’t.

“I really regret what I have done and I wish I hadn’t done it. I have since deleted it from my phone because I don’t want to be attached to it. I want to send my apologies to the homeless man who it happened

to. I don’t condone this behaviour and I would like to find him to say sorry.”

Phil Ingall, director of Derby homeless charity PACE, said the actions of the man in the video were “abhorrent” and has urged the homeless man to come forward.

He said: “It shows what a sad state we’re in that someone who is that desperate at that time of the night is willing to put himself in danger. The problem of homelessness is growing and PACE needs an extra 100 spaces to keep up. Just think of that number.

“Whoever the man is, I urge him to come to PACE, speak to me – or go to single-point of entry at the council to get some help.”

PACE is based at 56 Hartington Street and has a café at the Jubilee Business Park, in Stores Road, Derby.

I want to send my apologies to the homeless man who it happened to.
