Man taken to hospital after he is rescued from burning home

-

A MAN had to be taken to hospital after all three emergency services were called out to a house fire near Friar Gate.

Fire crews from three different stations including Kingsway, Ascot Drive and Nottingham Road were called to the scene in South Street, just after 5.15pm, yesterday.

A man had to be rescued from a property and was taken to hospital by East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Drivers were being warned to avoid the area.

A spokesman from Derbyshire police said: “Emergency services are currently dealing with a fire that broke out at a house in Derby earlier this evening.

“The fire started at about 5.15pm at a house in South Street, near Friar Gate.

“The fire has been brought under control. Our officers and the fire service will carry out a joint investigation in due course and the cause is not known at this time.

“Please avoid the area if you can as there is increased traffic due to the emergency services attendance in the area.”

Residents stated they heard loud beeping before seeing police and fire crews descend on the street.

Ivan Stott, 50, who has lived in the street for four years, said: “I just heard loads of beeping and when I went to look there were loads of people on the street.

“Generally it’s a really quiet street and a really nice place to live, but does attract some unsavoury traffic.”

A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “I don’t know the people who live there, but I know they’ve been there quite a while.

“I was in the middle of making my evening meal when I just saw fire engines and police cars outside. “I don’t know anything else.” Forensics arrived on the scene just after 7pm to investigate.
