POLICE are appealing to find a Derby homeless man who had kebab meat and chips thrown in his face on Sunday.

He was standing outside Sarry’s, in Cheapside, when he had the food thrown at him.

The man who says he did it, Adam Thorpe, alleges that the homeless man was offered £10 to let it happen.

After the incident on December 2, Mr Thorpe says he felt terrible about it.

The 29-year-old Chaddesden man even says he went out of his way to try to find the homeless person to apologise and make amends.

Now Derbyshire police want to find the victim to find out what happened.

Inspector Lauren Woods, who is in charge of policing in the city centre, said: “The images of the incident are not pleasant and we are keen to investigate what and why it happened. In order to get as full a picture as possible, we would like to speak to the apparent victim and would urge him, or anyone who knows who he is, to make contact with us.

“We would also like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.

“Whilst we are investigating the circumstances I would ask people not to speculate or make further comment on social media about the matter.”

A spokesperson for Derbyshire police said: “We have been aware of a video circulating in the local press and on social media of an apparently homeless man having food thrown in his face. The incident happened at around 2am on Sunday, December 9, on Cheapside, in Derby, and we would like to speak to the apparent victim [pictured in the green coat] about what happened.”

The original video, which has since been removed, was shared almost 1,000 times and viewed almost 100,000 times on Facebook. Since the Derby Telegraph published the original story, it has been shared hundreds of times.

Anyone with information about the person’s whereabouts should call 101 quoting incident number 18*600088. They can also call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. Police want to speak to the man in the green coat. Far left, how we reported the story on Wednesday’s front page
