A GANG fought in the street over ‘local tensions in the area’ between two ‘factions.’

During the short incident some of the men were seen carrying weapons and bottles, some of which were thrown.

CCTV played at Derby Crown Court showed how the whole incident lasted less than five minutes and ended when one of the men, Jamie Carter, who the other five appear to have an issue with, calms the situation and the two gangs disperse.

However, police became involved and the six, four adults and two under 18s, were arrested and later charged.

Sentencing the six, Judge Shaun Smith QC said: “Stand up you lot. I have been around long enough to know what I have seen in the footage is not the worst type of affray the public are likely to see.

“It was an unfortunate way for you to deal with local issues. It was a hot day and no doubt drink would have played its part.

“Five of you decided to go and have it out with some older people in the street. Thankfully, it was just posing and posturing largely.

“A couple of items were thrown, Ashley Dunn but once Mr Carter appeared, things seemed to calm down and things ended pretty amicably.

“But people can’t go out into the street with weapons in the way that you did.”

Sarah Phelan, prosecuting, said the offence took place in Overdale, Matlock, on the evening of July 16.

She showed CCTV of the fight which police had seized from a property in the area. It showed a Jack FlintDowning number of people come out into the middle of the road and a short fight took place, during which some of those involved were holding bottles and weapons and others weren’t.

The film shows five of the group head from one direction and Carter and his group come from the other.

After some items are seen to be thrown, Carter appears to defuse the situation and the two groups leave the area.

A car, which Miss Phelan said belonged to the grandfather of one of the group, was also damaged. The incident lasted around five minutes.

Police arrested the six and charged them with a number of offences.

Carter, 35, of Blackrocks Avenue, Matlock, pleaded guilty to affray and was handed a 12-month community order with a curfew.

A 17-year-old, of Wirksworth, pleaded guilty to affray while another youth, aged 17, and from the same town, pleaded guilty to a public order offence and were each handed 12-month youth rehabilitation orders.

Ashley Dunn, 21, of Overdale, Matlock, pleaded guilty to affray and was jailed for two months.

Jack Flint-Downing, 23, of Callow Drive, Sheffield, also pleaded guilty to affray and was jailed for four months.

And Thomas Stones, 23, of Jackson Tor Road, Matlock, pleaded guilty to a public order offence and was handed an 18-month community order with 80 hours unpaid work.
