Man accused of wielding fake firearm

A DERBY man has been accused of using a fake gun to terrify residents of an Allestree road.

Nigel Standen, of Abbey Hill Road, appeared before magistrates on Thursday on a crutch and wearing a large red top hat.

He spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

The 56-year-old man is charged with using an imitation firearm, namely a BB gun, to cause fear of violence in nearby residents.

He was granted bail and will appear for proceedings at Derby Crown Court on January 10.
