Listen to the people affected by Brexit

-

IF you watch television you will have seen hundreds of people of an age similar to me giving voice to their personal choice of platitudes. There are about a dozen phrases they can choose from and I don’t need to repeat them.

They all disagree. The only thing they have in common is that their personal circumstances are unlikely to be much affected by Brexit/nonBrexit.

Almost totally absent have been the voices of those of an age whose aspirations, opportunities, employment and pay will be crucially affected by what happens.

Who should we be listening to? John Morrissey, The Avenue, Belper

agreement could be in its character font.

The splintering Conservative party, which is at its weakest ever, has no opposition except in name only. Jeremy Corbyn continues to ignore the two thirds of his party’s wish for a people’s vote with some misguided idea that a general election would make a difference.

This from a man with a lower poll rating than even Michael Foot. May is streets ahead in the ratings even now.

Now time is being used to force the PM’s Brexit deal through Parliament.

This ‘timing out’ could be a way of engineering so little time left that the deal cannot be debated and delivered as fait accompli.

Or we end up with a no deal due to the massive parliamentary majority against it.

This would be the worst of all possible outcomes for the people, who did not knowingly vote for this.

The only way out now is a People’s Vote on whether to accept the deal or Remain.

Brussels has said the UK can remain with all the advantages gained over 40 years as a member. The alternatives are financially catastrophic.
