A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD from Derbyshire is aiming to make a difference to the homeless this Christmas, thanks to a special winter wonderland scene made from 10,000 Lego bricks.

William Curtis has been hard at work creating a festive scene from the famous plastic construction blocks with a little help from mum, Hayley, 35, dad Chris, 43, and four-year-old brother, Oliver.

He has made a toy shop, a fire station, several houses, a train track, an ice rink – and even Santa’s grotto to fill his fab model town.

Now the Newhall Junior School pupil plans to open his exhibition to friends and neighbours – in return for donations to be passed on to Burton’s Eaton Foundation. Proud mum Hayley said William had enjoyed playing with Lego since he was about four and helped his parents to create a special display every Christmas.

This year’s scene is bigger and better than ever – and contains around 10,000 blocks. They took many hours of work to put together.

Slimming World consultant Hayley said: “He’s been making the Christmas scenes since he was little. He loves to play with Lego and it is a nice tradition for us at Christmas. It’s something we all like to do as a family – but it has just got bigger and better every year. We’ve got so much, it’s ridiculous!

“This year William was really proud of the ice rink he made – and he should be because it looks great!

“He’s told his friends about it and now they all want to come and see it.

“We thought we would let them do so while raising some money to help people as well.”

Hayley said William wanted to help the foundation after seeing homeless people on the streets when the family visited Burton. She said: “William doesn’t like seeing people living on the streets. He gets really upset by it.

“So he wants to do something to help – and that’s what the Eaton Foundation does.

“We’ll have a coffee morning and invite people round to come and see the town. He’s very excited, so hopefully it all goes well.

“He’s hoping to raise about £30 and we’ve already raised £10 – so fingers crossed!”

The family have also been invited to visit the Eaton Foundation, in Orchard Street, Burton, to chat to those who run the service and see the good work undertaken there.

The charity works to support men across East Staffordshire who suffer with mental health problems, are homeless, have disabilities or need help to find employment.
