Parents enjoy time to unwind at festive party

-

PARENTS of children with special educational needs (SEN) were treated to a lavish afternoon of Christmas celebrations at the Derby Conference Centre, courtesy of local organisation Sunshine Support.

Some children with SEN find this time of year very stressful and disruptive and their families often opt to not celebrate Christmas at all.

While this brings stress levels down for children who find it difficult, it can often leave their parents without any way of celebrating the season’s festivities.

With many parents having to give up work to look after their child, it means that not only do they go without gifts but they don’t even get a work party.

Cue Chrissa Wadlow from Sunshine Support getting creative, and throwing a daytime Christmas do in a way to celebrate not only the season of goodwill, but the fact that these parents need to feel special.

“Parenthood is the hardest job to do, but the easiest to critique. Even more so when your child has additional needs and you really are a super hero for them in every way. These parents need to be celebrated, and be made to realise how truly amazing they really are”

Chrissa, along with a team of volunteers, organised a party at the conference centre.

Parents got to dress up and mingle with others who truly understand what they’re going through.
