Wilson in frame for top award

-

DERBY County ace Harry Wilson has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship player of the month award for December.

The Wales international, on loan from Liverpool, is one of four players in the running for the prize.

Wilson scored three goals for the Rams last month - a brace in the 2-1 win over Swansea City and a spectacular trademark free kick, albeit in defeat, away to Sheffield United on Boxing Day.

The 21-year-old also helped Frank Lampard’s men to victories over Wigan Athletic and Norwich City, as well as draws with Nottingham Forest and Bristol City.

In announcing his nomination, Sky Bet said: “After sparkling intermittently in the autumn, Wilson was brilliant throughout December, setting up others with his vision and the timing of his passes as well as contributing three goals, including another spectacular free kick at Sheffield United.”

Wilson is up against Hull City striker Jarrod Bowen, Leeds United front man Kemar Roofe and Sheffield United hot-shot Billy Sharp.

Bowen hit six goals in as many matches, along with an assist.

Roofe managed five goals in six games, firing Leeds to three wins in the process.

Sharp also netted five times in six outings, including the opener in a 3-1 win over Derby.

The judging panel is made up of Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, League Managers’ Association director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet EFL trader Mikey Mumford.

The winner will be announced tomorrow.

The nominees for Championship manager of the month have also been revealed.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is in the running ahead of his side’s crunch clash with Derby tomorrow night.

Nigel Adkins (Hull), Lee Johnson (Bristol City) and former Rams defender Darren Moore (West Bromwich Albion) have also been nominated.
