Show postponed after Guildhall Theatre closes for rest of month

-

THE shock closure of Derby’s Guildhall Theatre means that a sold-out performance due to take place tonight has been postponed until July for safety reasons.

Essential maintenance has been ongoing at the Market Place venue for several months, but the city council has now confirmed that the Grade II listed building will be closed for at least the next three weeks, and potentially longer.

This means that tonight’s sold-out Pink Floyd tribute concert, Floyd In The Flesh, has been postponed due to the closure.

Derby City Council said: “Over recent months significant efforts have been made to keep the Guildhall Theatre open while essential maintenance works take place. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances this is no longer possible. Sadly the venue will now have to be closed until at least the end of January, however this might have to be extended.

“We apologise to our customers and partners for the inconvenience caused, but we have a duty to operate safely. All customers will be contacted and we will look at re-scheduling shows where feasible. For any rescheduled shows, customers can either have a ticket for the re-scheduled date or can receive a full refund.

“In the event of cancellation, full refunds will be made. Customers with any questions can get in touch with our Sales and Information team at 01332 255800, boxoffice@derby.gov.uk or in person at the Assembly Rooms, Market Place, Derby.”

Floyd In The Flesh confirmed yesterday they had postponed their Derby gig, posting on Facebook: “Unfortunately due to reasons beyond our control, we have been made aware that our show at the Guildhall Theatre tomorrow night has been postponed for safety reasons. The show has been rescheduled for 27th July 2019. We are sorry for any inconvenience.”
