“I’M sorry for wasting your time” were the words of a reveller fined for damaging a barrier at a Derby nightclub after having too much to drink.

Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court heard how Joseph Luing kicked out at a crowd control barrier while outside Fever nightclub in the city centre, during the early hours of Sunday, December 9.

The 37-year-old, of Rhyd-Y-Galen Caravan Park, Carnarfon, Wales, was arrested by officers who were standing nearby.

He pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage and Judge Andrew Meachin, who presided over the case, fined Luing and also told him to pay compensation.

Lynn Bickey, prosecuting, said the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning.

She said: “This incident occurred on Sunday, December 9 at 12.45am.

“The defendant caused damage to a crowd control barrier outside the Derby nightclub Fever.

“Officers, who were in the Wardwick, saw two males being verbally aggressive towards door staff. The police walked over to the nightclub, intervened and arrested Luing.

“In his interview the defendant made an admission that he did kick out at a barrier. He accepts he was drunk.

“He stated he had been hit in the face by a girl in the club and he was seen holding a tissue to his face.”

He pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage after looking at CCTV footage of the incident.

Luing, who had no defence solicitor in court, spoke to the judge.

He stated he works at a campsite in Wales for eight months of the year and was due to start back at the site in March.

He said he would also be looking for another job in the meantime to keep him going.

He apologised to the court for wasting its time.

Judge Meachin gave credit to Luing for his guilty plea and fined him £40 (this was reduced from £60 due to his early guilty plea).

Luing also had to pay £50 in compensation. He was told to pay up before February 5. Luing, a court was told, kicked out and damaged a crowd barrier outside the nightclub in the Wardwick
