Can anyone recall Tommy My Lad?

-

I AM trying to recall a ditty my grandmother used to recite to me when I was young and am wondering if readers can help. I can only partially remember it. I am 75 now, and it haunts me trying to recall it.

TOMMY MY LAD

“Now Tommy my lad,” said the old tabby cat,

“Pick up your shoes and put on your hat,

“And you just go off to school as I say

“Or you’ll go to bed for the rest of the day.”

But Tommy was naughty. “I shan’t go,” he said.

“Well choose,” said his mother, “between that and bed.”

Now I’m more muddled about the next bit.

Just then Tommy’s cousin looked in at the door

Saw Tommy was crying and said “Eh Tommy my lad, come to school then with me.”

I’d be grateful for any help. I want to tell it to my youngest grandson who is four.
