Last-gasp goal ends winning streak

- LANCASTER CITY 2 MICKLEOVER SPORTS 2

MICKLEOVER Sports were denied a fifth win in a row by an equaliser in the sixth minute of added time in their Evo-Stik Premier Division match away to Lancaster City.

Trailing at the interval, Sports looked set to extend their good run when goals from Pablo Mills and Durrell Berry put them ahead only for the home side to snatch a late leveller with practically the last kick of the contest.

Goalkeeper Callum Hawkins held on to an early Rob Wilson free kick for Lancaster and Kyle Carey had a shot from just inside the box saved by Lancaster’s Jack Sims.

But City found the breakthrough after 30 minutes from a free kick, which was taken by Ryan Winder and headed into his own net by Berry.

Charlie Bailey blasted the ball over the bar as Lancaster looked for a second before half-time but Sports came out firing after the break and Nathan Jarman was played in by a ball over the top only for his shot to be blocked away for a corner.

Lewis Fensome’s strike for the home side was tipped over the bar by Hawkins but, in the 54th minute, Sports equalised from a corner, taken by Mason Warren and headed into the bottom corner by Mills.

Shaquille McDonald volleyed wide for Sports in the 59th minute following a lovely run from Jake Scott but they did not have to wait long for a second goal.

It came in the 65th minute, when a Warren free kick fell to Berry and he joyfully headed in to make amends for his earlier own goal.

Lancaster were stung into a response and a Charlie Bailey shot smacked off the post.

Sports were given another scare in the 80th minute as Hawkins spilled a free kick and Mills had to clear.

Lancaster pushed hard for an equaliser and it finally came when Brad Carsley’s shot flew past Hawkins.
