TOO SOON by John Hyde, of Chellaston Easter eggs on sale at New Year? anything to jump the gun,

It’s getting quite confusing When all is said and done.

TV ads for Christmas hampers, Start now, 11 months to go, Take the weight off waiting,

It all makes sense, you know. We see Christmas mas cards in August,

It gets much sooner every year, There’s tinsel in the shops in town. Well, I just find that queer. Then pumpkins, scary ghosties, Lots of Guys and ghouls, Must keep the public spending, We fall for it like fools.

Buy your cards a little early, Shop now and beat the rush, Every year, most shops in autumn, Giving things that “festive push”. Leaflets with weekend papers Offering booze at Christmas rates, Blimey! It’s just September, Months to go – but no-one waits. High streets are all struggling, Sadly, that’s all too clear,

But do they need to sell their stuff So much earlier every year?
