Phone survives lake dunking,

A TEAM of professional divers found a mobile phone in full working order at the bottom of a lake at a new watersports park in Long Eaton.

The divers, who also trawled the lake at the former American Adventure theme park, were tasked with finding the £800 iPhone X by a staff member at the new Spring Lakes watersports centre.

Warren Palmer, his wife Shell, 44, and stepson Anthony Hanstock, 24, found the phone in the murky waters while they anchored down inflatables at the £500,000 aqua park.

Mr Hanstock was the man to first spot the iPhone, which had been under the water for two days, during their dive on Saturday.

“We had made a bit of a plan on this grid,” he said. “But I went off course a bit and as I hit the bottom I reached out and touched the phone.

“I grabbed it and pressed the button and it turned on. The screen lit up and he had a missed call from his grandad. It was amazing that it still worked after two days.” The phone belonged to Brad Beech, a staff member who had dropped it in the lake while he was out on a job. “Brad thanked us after and said we had saved him about £800 for the insurance for the phone.

“They’ve given us exclusive rights to the lake now. So anyone who goes on the course and drops anything, they can just give us a call.

“The lake was so murky, we never managed to find anything else on the day.”

The Underwater Hunters - who have more than 600 subscribers on YouTube and have grossed 10,000 views on their GoPro videos - have ventured into the lake in Trent Meadow before.

They found an old motorbike and Mr Palmer, who has been a professional diver for 11 years, even lost one of his GoPro cameras.

Unfortunately, they were unable to locate it during their dive on Saturday.

However, Brad was more than impressed with their work.

He added: “Massive shout out to these guys for finding my iPhone X which was underwater for two days and works absolutely fine. Give them a like and a follow and share the love for Underwater Hunters.”

The Spring Lakes watersports centre is owned by Mansfield couple Katie and Richard Hill, both 40, who have said they want the venue to become one of the top wakeboarding centres in the country.

More than £500,000 was invested by the pair in the flooded gravel pits to make it a family-fun destination.

Around 22 jobs, including three wakeboard coaches and 12 lifeguards, have also been created.

I grabbed it and pressed the button and it turned on. The screen lit up and he had a missed call from his grandad.
