Shoplifter was found to have knuckleduster
A THIEF who returned to steal from a Swadlincote store three times was found to be carrying a knuckleduster, a court heard.
Christopher Murphy stole laundry detergent and cheese worth £30 from the store.
Murphy, 40, of Midland Road, Swadlincote, went into Home Bargains three times over two days to steal the items.
He has now appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to three shoplifting charges. Murphy stole several laundry detergent products worth £31.90 on July 27.
He then stole the cheese worth another £30 from the same store on the same day.
Murphy later stole two items of detergent, worth £15.98, on July 31.
He also pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon – a knuckleduster – at Derby Police Station on July 31.
Magistrates jailed him for 26 weeks after hearing it was his second similar offence.
He was also ordered to pay £61.90 compensation. A LORRY theft has resulted in a police CCTV appeal.
The incident took place on Tuesday, July 9, when a compound in Cat and Fiddle Lane, Dale Abbey, was broken into and a Mercedes curtain-sided lorry was stolen.
Derbyshire police have now released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the theft.
A spokesman said: “We want to speak to the man pictured. We appreciate the image is of low quality but we hope it may jog someone’s memory.”
Anyone with further information or who recognises the man should call 101 quoting reference number 19*355949 and the name of the investigating officer, PC John Ross. Nottingham Road. After more than a decade at the Wilmot, manager Carlos Chiarella is now focusing on his new venture of reopening The Canal Turn, in Spondon, under a new name.
Several posts, jam-packed with photos, were uploaded to the Wilmot Arms Facebook page after the leaving party. A gallery of pictures from the event is also available to view on the Derby Telegraph website.
