Woman in M&S top seen ‘trying to steal plants’ from home

A DERBY homeowner says she feels insecure in her own home after a woman entered her driveway “attempting to steal her plants” – while bizarrely wearing a Marks & Spencer top.

Helen Large wants the public’s help to identify the woman seen entering her Derby home on Monday morning.

Police and M&S are both investigating the strange incident, which happened at 7.50am in Trowels Lane.

Even though the woman is wearing a M&S jumper, Mrs Large says she doesn’t believe the woman to be an employee of the store.

CCTV footage shows the moment when the woman, with her dog, enters Mrs Large’s driveway and goes to pick up a plant near the front door.

She then appears to proceed to pick up a second plant just yards away. When Mrs Large, 34, knocks on the front bay window to see what she is doing, the woman quickly puts the plant back, puts her hand out and says “sorry” twice while walking away.

It is not yet clear why the woman, with long dark brown hair, was wearing a Marks & Spencer top at the time.

Travel agent and mum-of-one Mrs Large said the incident had made her feel insecure. She said: “I can’t understand what she was trying to do. She has one of the plants in her hand, so it looks like she was trying to steal them.

“But she may have also been looking to see if anything was underneath them. It’s not nice to see a stranger enter your driveway and pick up your belongings - it makes you more aware of your surroundings.

“It would be great to know if anyone knows her – I’ve spoke to my neighbours and they don’t who she is. shows the woman entering Derby home on Monday off

a“I went to Kingsway M&S to report this woman, as advised to by the police, as she was wearing their uniform.

“I was told by the store manager the same woman was going through their bins that morning. The manager asked for a copy of the video and was contacting the police.”

An M&S spokesperson said: “We are investigating this.”

Derbyshire police said no arrests had been made but inquiries were ongoing.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference number 19000 425 669.
