THE SECRET TEACHER

Channel 4, 9pm

THIS week the millionaire entrepreneur pretending to be trying out a new career in teaching is Liverpudlian property empire-owner Kate.

She hasn’t been in a classroom for 21 years, when she left school pregnant and with no qualifications. Now she’s going undercover at Parkwood School, in a deprived area of Sheffield, and is looking for kids with potential to help turn their lives around.

Kate finds herself shocked at the teachers’ ever-increasing workloads, as well as the level of responsibility they have to take on.

She teams up with student support worker Jackie, and soon finds herself drawn to a couple of Year 11 kids in particular, for very different reasons.

Molly has an incredibly poor attendance record, and is at risk of falling through the cracks in the system, and Zain shows impressive entrepreneurial skills, but his fondness for messing about means he isn’t living up to his potential. James Corden, centre, hands over the baton to guest hosts for most of this series

A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN

Sky One, 9pm

THIS sports entertainment panel show has proved itself to be quite the juggernaut, regularly churning out huge stunts, high-octane games and big laughs, and managing to prove that some of our top sporting stars do actually have personalities and a sense of humour.

Now it’s back for a fourteenth series, although there is one big change this time around.

Regular host James Corden is just too busy and successful in America these days, so he can’t commit to hosting the whole run. Instead he’ll be at the helm for just two episodes, and there will be guest hosts taking his place for the rest, including former team regular Jack Whitehall and the likes of David Walliams, Clare Balding and Amanda Holden.

Tonight’s episode sees team captains Freddie Flintoff and Jamie Redknapp and regular Romesh Ranganathan welcome presenter Fearne Cotton, cricketer Jimmy Anderson and footballer Joe Cole.
