The beautiful art of baking

BAKING EXPERT JULIET SEAR IS REVEALING THE SECRETS OF PERFECT PUDS AND STAR SAVOURIES IN HER NEW TV SERIES. MARION McMULLEN LOOKS FORWARD TO A SLICE OF THE ACTION

-

JULIET SEAR is the ultimate yummy mummy and has created cakes for everyone from actor Sir Ian McKellen and singer Bryan Adams to royalty in the form of Prince Harry plus TV and radio presenter Fearne Cotton.

Sir Ian declared: “Juliet’s cakes look good, taste even better and are among the best I’ve ever enjoyed eating.”

The mother-of-three also provided the bakes used in the memorable singing and dancing We All Stand Together trailer for the launch of Great British Bake Off on Channel 4.

Now the This Morning regular is presenting her own Sunday morning ITV series Beautiful Baking With Juliet Sear and says: “I’m really hoping it will encourage and inspire more people to have a go.

“I want to demystify baking with showstoppers that are easy to do and quirky, modern, twists on baking classics. And it’s not just cakes, it’s savoury as well.”

Juliet certainly knows all about quirky. She created the world’s first edible Christmas jumper and says one of her biggest jobs was making a two-and-a-half-metre chocolate bunny.

“When I first started with my own bakery most people wanted wedding cakes,” she says. “I did hundreds of them. No one would attempt to make their own wedding cake, but now people are prepared to do them.”

Juliet says one of her favourite creations was the wedding cake for the late Peaches Geldof which included pigs wearing wigs and her Labrador, but says she is so busy these days there is little time for personal commissions.

She has also branched out into vegan cakes and recipes after her children opted for a vegan lifestyle and she says her repertoire has expanded to offer healthier options.

And what is Juliet’s own perfect food treat? “Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a piece of chocolate fudge cake and Christmas cake, but not a whole portion.

“I love crisps and chips and cheese and you can’t beat bread. I do sourdough all the time.

“I also love to do a roast dinner at the weekend ... and the more guests the better.”

■ Beautiful Baking With Juliet Sear can be seen on ITV at 9.30am on Sundays.
