Man runs on to rail line to escape police

-

A DANGEROUS driver managed to escape a police chase after running on to a railway line.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said officers stopped the driver of a car using cloned number plates in Osmaston Road, Derby, on Wednesday night.

They used a stinger device, which punctures tyres, but the driver involved jumped out and ran away.

Police helicopters were called to the scene to help track the man but officers said he managed to escape the chase.

However, officers said they had identified the suspect and he would be under a warrant for arrest.

In a tweet, Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit commented: “Alfa (Romeo) on cloned plates fails to stop and drives dangerously. Stinger deployed.

“Driver jumps out and runs onto railway line making good his escape despite @NPASMidlands attendance.

“Already identified – see you soon.” said: “I do not call Jacob Ali to give evidence, my lord.”

Judge Mr Robin Knowles QC asked: “Have you advised your client we have come to the stage that if he chooses not to give evidence or refuses to answer any questions the jury may draw any inferences they may from that?”

Mr Hawes replied: “I have, my lord, that is the defence case for Mr Ali.”

Earlier in the trial, Guy also chose not to give evidence in his defence.

But Williams spent three days in the witness box giving evidence and being cross-examined.

He told the jury how it was he who drove Guy’s blue Renault Megane to the botched robbery and that it was Ali
